American Gothic is a justice oil for when the truth needs to be witnessed, the record needs correcting, and the people who caused harm need to answer for it.
This oil was created for justice work, court work, accountability, vindication, truth-telling, protection, and petitioning beyond systems that do not always move fairly. It is for the person who has been lied on, crossed, targeted, dismissed, spiritually pressed, or forced to carry the weight of someone else’s wrongdoing while waiting for the truth to catch up.
The name American Gothic speaks to the shadow side of American justice. For Black people, the courthouse was not always a place of protection. The law did not always defend us. The official record did not always tell the truth. So when the system would not hear us, our people went to the rootworker, the prayer woman, the conjure doctor, the elder, the ancestor, the one who knew how to petition beyond the hands of man.
This oil is rooted in that history.
American Gothic is not patriotic pageantry. It is the old house, the witness tree, the petition book, the candle, the bowl, the rooster calling the morning, and the spirits who know what happened. It is justice work with an ancestral backbone.
Use this oil when you need truth exposed, lies unraveled, harmful people checked, paperwork strengthened, spiritual protection called in, or a situation brought before a higher court.

Anoint justice candles, protection candles, court candles, or truth candles. Dress petitions, written statements, copies of legal paperwork, complaint letters, or evidence packets. Add a small amount to a justice jar, working bowl, spell paper, or ritual cloth. Use it on your hands before writing a petition, preparing paperwork, or speaking the truth in a situation where your words need weight.
You may also use American Gothic around the edges of a folder, envelope, or printed document to spiritually strengthen the case, complaint, request, or petition being submitted.

Write the situation clearly on a piece of paper. State what happened, what truth needs to be revealed, and what outcome you are calling for. Keep it direct.
Anoint the four corners and center of the paper with American Gothic. Place it beneath a white, brown, purple, or black candle depending on your tradition and the nature of the work. As the candle burns, speak:
“Let the truth stand up.
Let every lie lose its cover.
Let what was done in secret meet its witness.
Let justice move with clean hands and a steady foot.”
Burn safely. Dispose of the remains according to your working style.
