I release the image of myself that was built from other people’s opinions.
I release the names I was called, the comparisons that were made, the jokes that stayed with me, the criticism I believed, and every moment that taught me to look at myself and find something wrong.
I am no longer that child standing beneath someone else’s judgment.
What they saw in me was not the whole of me.
What they said about me did not become the truth simply because I heard it enough times.
What embarrassed me then does not have the right to define me now.
Let the old picture fade.
Remove the eyes of classmates, family, friends, strangers, and anyone else whose judgment became part of the way I learned to see myself.
Let me look at my face and see my own face.
Let me look at my body and see the body I have now.
Let me receive admiration without searching for the insult underneath it.
Let me be seen without returning to the version of myself who learned to hide.
I release shame that no longer belongs here.
I release old comparisons.
I release the need to keep proving that I am no longer who they said I was.
I give myself permission to update the picture.
May I see myself as I am now, not as I was taught to see myself then.
May my reflection belong to me again.
